DR. NIANQIU SHI

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Nianqiu Shi  is a Professor at the School of Pharmacy, Jilin Medical University, China. He was a senior scientist at State Key Laboratory of Drug Delivery Technology and Pharmacokinetics in Tianjin Institute of Pharmaceutical Research during 2012-2013. He has published more than 20 research papers and reviews.

RESEARCH AREA

Multifunctional nanocarriers or macromolecules have many advantages for diseases treatments. Dr Shi employs diverse targeting delivery systems including conjugate, liposomes and micelles to deliver anticancer drug or gene for tumor therapy. In this process, Dr Shi unitizes stimuli-responsive strategies (e.g. enzyme-responsive) to obtain the targeting therapy of tumor. Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) are also adopted to cross cellular barriers. Internalization mechanisms of CPPs or CPP-cargoes are also focused by Dr Shi. According Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS) theory, BCS II drugs have low solubility and high permeability, frequently resulting low dissolution or bioavailability. Dr Shi also  adopts amorphous technology to improve the solubility, dissolution and bioavailability of model active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) belonging to BCS II by the usage of polymers. Dr Shi focuses on the influence of used polymers on dissolution and crystallization process, and explore the inherent principle and association. Other technologies and application in industrial pharmaceutics are also explored.
